Bible Study App Reviews

Exactly what it is, a bible app. You can read the bible, highlight, search, use cross reference, etc. There isn’t anything super fantastic about it, but as a whole it works really well. On occasion there are a few bugs that mess with highlighting or make it quit randomly, but other than that I recommend it. I think everyone in our church uses it to one extent or another.

Bible Study has become a great app. I have used it over the years, and the idea was always desirable, but initially there were glitches which were annoying. But over the past year or so, it has become first class. I love the commentaries available and how easily they work with the scripture you are reading. Also, highlighting and manking notes is very easy. Finally the synchronization over all your devices seems to work seamlessly, which was a complaint I had originally. Thanks for continuing to improve the product.

OliveTree is easy to use except for the notes. I like being able to read the Bible and commentaries or Greek text side by side. However, the notes are slow and become slower as I add to them. I have to close the program often to regain speed. Also, I like to use this program while teaching, but it would be much less cumbersome if I could glance at the notes and the “flags” and quickly see key concepts and points. Suggestions: 1) Add text and list formatting to the notes. 2) Add “flags” that better fit concept or grammatical diagramming. Pins and dialogue boxes are not helpful when trying to organize serious commentary and teaching notes. For example, it would be helpful to add something that clearly identifies the MAIN VERB and something to mark emphasis, such as a big “E”.

Now that Mac version has been updated to the 6.0 platform, the app is significantly better. If I had to rate this app purely on support and responsiveness to my issues, I would give it a 5 star as they have been very responsive since coming up with 6.0 version and all its updates. All that said, I am giving it an overall 4 stars as the app still needs improvements in UI and performance. I have hundreds of tags and I tag verses with multiple tags but there is no way I can search by multiple tags i.e., if I want to find a verse that is tagged with both “Jesus” and “Prophecy” I cannot figure out a way to do this. Also, because of the large number of tags, the program is sluggish on my 2010 MacBook Air when starting a new note or navigating within the Resource Guide. Synching can also be finnicky at times but ultimtely it does keep things in sync. I can only imagine how complex a program like this is to write and maintain so hats off to the team.

Thank God for Time Machine. I’ll be reverting (to version 5.X) as soon as I get home. I should have known better after seeing how bad it was on my iPad (I reverted there too). Half of my notes are in limbo as well as my ribbons. I don’t have time for this. Will not be buying anymore resources and will start from scratch with another app.

After using this app for many years I increasingly regret ever buying it. Sync issues of years ago still exist! Support acknowledges issues but nothing gets done! Constantly crashes when any mildly complicated task is required of it, such having 2 windows open etc. It is useful ONLY for reading. If you are a serious student looking for an App that is stable, syncs well, does not crash, you are at the wrong place. I am tired of past attempts to get issues solved. It is obvious that whoever is doing the coding over at Olive Tree have no idea what they are doing.

Great app love the choice of Bibles. The only negitive is it crashes when I try to use the Bible Reading Plans. This only on my IMac works well on my iPhone. Continue to make it better.

have liked and used this app for years. in late 2016, can’t access all my downloads, app quits unexpectedly, can’t sign in to my account anymore. whats going on?

The program continues to lock up on occasion when attempting to do text search. Very frustrating. Apart from that I appreciate how the tools are so accessible. At times I would like another window temporary note taking.

I am in my 11th year of BSF International and I started usingthis program 2 years ago. it is, in my opinion, the best Bible study program available for Apple OS. I have a much, much more expensive Bible study (PC Bible Study) for Windows but prefer this App because it is so much easier to use. Bob Wood

Update to my review. I’m sorry to say that with the Mac update earlier this year, the program has been a dismal disappointment. It’s impossible to enjoy a program if it constantly crashes. Of course the program has all sorts of potential (those of us who use it on IOS know this) but that potential and actual enjoyment of the program is impossible because the program is still crashing regularly. It’s especially sensitive to being maxed on the screen or when using the bible reading option which requires using the 2nd screen. There is an instability here because the bible cannot be read with the 2nd window open and not have a real jagged feel on scrolling. As well, it’s happened dozens of times that when I go to close the 2nd screen (which then allows for a nice flow for scrolling and reading), the program crashes. Looking forward to the day when the program for Mac is no longer a nice idea and instead a great application. --------------------------- Where Olive Tree’s Bible Program shines is in simplicity and ease of use. There is no program like it as far as this. As well, the resources are very reasonably priced. I have a lot of experience with a number of bible programs out there and no one so competitively prices their commentaries and bible helps as Olive Tree does. Where the program needs to improve is in the user functionality and flexibility. LIke I always say, more power to the user! For example, on the Mac version, you can drag your resources for any area so they are most useful for you. Here some common sense would be nice…come on guys…provide an alphanumeric sorting option. And then even when you order the resources in the way you want them (let’s say, for example, the commentaries according to the books of the bible) they don’t show up this way on the desktop. They’re a big mishmash and not very user-friendly to find the resource you want when you need it. As well, Olive Tree needs to add some drag and drop options for windows. Again, giving the power to the user is key. Standard practice is objects or windows that are moveable so that the user can customize his desktop as he pleases. Finally, I can’t believe I’m saying this but even increasing the font size or style on apps is complicated and doesn’t work. Just put it right at the fingertips. You want to change the font for Morning and Evening, have a small toolbar above that once a user changes it, it’s saved! How easy! But overall, I’m thankful for Olive Tree. LIke I said, the ease of use and the value for the money is pretty much unbeaten, especially on the Mac. Keep it up Olive Tree!

Over the past 20+ years of using electronic devices of some kind to facilitate Bible study I have found a home with “Bible Study.” I have been using it for over 6 years now. It allows me to set up my study environment the way it works best for me. It is not the dog that wags the tail; this tool serves my purposes and takes a low posture as a user interface. The learning curve is easy and fast and basically similar on all platforms. It also has enough bells and whistles to make more complex study and research a pleasure (I used it explicitly for Biblical research in pursuing my Doctoral degree and it worked like a charm). The Library offers the necessary additions for more complex study. Had I to do it again, I would buy and use this product without hesitation. If you need a Bible Study application buy Bible Study.

I really enjoy the program. It is a great program I has everything you need. I do wish that you could pick the books of the bible and the Verses using like a spin wheel instead of just the drup down box. But over all great program works on phone and iPad.

I can’t expess how pleased I’m am with the upgrades. I’ve been using the Olive Tree Bible Study Program for over five year. I found it easy to use and very resourseful. The only issue was it would crash sometimes. But now with the upgrades, program doesn’t crash and is a lot easier to use.

Fantastic library, great linkage between books. Easy to use. I can have the same bible study app on all my devices and my Mac. Love love love it!

I used PC Study Bible for over 10 years, and switched to Olive Tree on the iPhone and iPad just because I was able to fill out my Bible and e-library more fully. Now, after four years of using the desktop version as well, it has everything I need in a general Bible study program, and it syncs very well between all devices for highlights, notes and preferences.I havent found a better mix of original language tools for the price, anywhere. Highly recommend this app!

All I can say is, “This Bible Study app is great!” I recommend it to every on that loves to read and study the Bible. There are some great features and many to numerous to mention. I like this app a lot. Easily search the scriptures, review various commentaries, and etc. This is a helpful resource when preparing my Sunday School lesson.

I am really enjoying the bible study app. It is very easy to navigate. I am in Seminary and this app has been very instrumental in the success of my classes. I thank The Lord for the information made available to me.
